Gardening is for people of all ages. The activity is good for both your physical and mental health. Spending time with nature may have additional benefits for you. Trees help us to live providing us with food, shelter, clothes and medicines. They keep our environment clean. Without trees the world will become a desert and life will cease to exist.
You may grow fruits like mango, papaya and vegetables brinjals, tomatoes at home even if you have limited space. You can grow mangos, coconuts, and guavas if you have slightly bigger space. You can grow flowers and herbs as well. Our resources are finite. Gardening is a fun way of sustaining our resources. When you eat vegetables and fruits that you've grown yourself, it changes everything – they taste more delicious, and it really makes a difference in the health qualities (vitamins, minerals, Phyto-active compounds etc.) of the food itself. It teaches us to become responsible. Fragrance and aroma of flowers are an added benefit.
A garden can work as a canvas for your creativity. You may start appreciating how small is beautiful. Express yourself and that will lessen your stress and anxiety. Sometimes the activity may taste our patience but at the end you will come out as the winner. Elderly people suffering from cognitive issues (such as dementia and Alzheimer’s) may benefit from garden settings and horticulture therapy. Sunlight and fresh air, for example, help agitated elders feel calmer, while the colors and textures of various plants and vegetables can improve visual and tactile ability.
It’s not just about health effects, either: the social benefits of gardening can also increase happiness. Increased sense of belonging and feeling of independence lead us to a purposeful life. Gardening may teach us mathematics and science as well -
